The same sprouts 16 days later... 9 remain. Getting crowded just as fast as I cull them. Some other mediocre plants in the background.
The sprouts are very uniform. I pulled out all the skinny ones. I am surprised how uniform they are and its regrettable to have to eliminate 8 perfectly good little plants. But, to find the happy optimal/ideal number of seeds to start with I guess I had to overshoot the target at least once.
In the next round after this I tried 6 or 7 seeds, but that isnt giving me quite as many good seedlings as I'd like I feel like its slightly below the target I am looking for. I think maybe 10 or 12 seeds... I dont want to waste seeds but I want enough seedlings that I can compare them. Direct seeding into soil that has an occasional hungry bug or two means adding a few more seeds... Probably 8-12 ish.
