The water is the only thing I can figure, I was afraid of over watering but maybe that's less of a concern in my soil than I thought. My soil OM is pretty low compared to a lot of people so I don't have a ton of water holding capacity I guess.

That's some strange cracks I'd say keep the pumpkin temp even night & day, and dont let the sun dry the skin. Apparently those babies are not built ford tough or whatever.

It would be interesting to see if shading the plant massively would reduce its horsepower until at least a fruit is at beachball size and able to take what it's given. I was actually proud to have one of my own seeds (178) blow up 2 fruits of that size on the same plant a few years ago, indicating ExTreMe power potential. I poll'd FuRthER without any mods (prolly September - no end result) to the plant but have read in the deep past about those whom have trimmed away vegetation to reduce damaging weight gains in extreme cases. Convenient, perhaps, that all those bamboo stakes could support a cloth of some sort - even small pieces - to reduce the sun's input. If available, utilizing as many pollinations as possible at the same time, to spread the wealth, might be advantageous. Good luck---eric g PS---Being that the plants are doing so well, I'd myself not change the watering nor nutrition situations and those splits might have healed over and therefore remained 'shock absorbers' for the next few pollinations, depending on the ultimate goal of either a huge, maybe scarred-in-battle fruit/s or a perfect one for all the glory - each of which need to get past this point. Take care---eric g
