Had a very narrow window with the wet weather. Two or three more dry day would have been ideal, but it's only getting worse in the two week forecast.
The spot where I grew my two biggest last year wasn't tilled until April 24th, so hopefully im a little ahead of the game this time.

Last two mornings were in the 30s. Plants can take a little cold, but combined with the wind, it really does seem to hurt them. Picture doesn't really show it, but the leaves are lighter green than they were a week ago. Hoping they can turn it around for pollination time in a couple weeks. Four more days until it warms up. This is my last 2365.

Ken, you asked about my rocks - this is my oldest patch. A little bit of rain this morning really makes them stand out. Wind is beating up the leaves today.

2365 apparently didn't like the cold snap last week followed by some decent weather. This one makes 3 of 6 main vines now gone. Deer got one and I dropped a t post on another.

Number four. Hang in there girl, we're rooting for you.
Guess this one didn't like an inch of rain yesterday with high temps below 60 today.

First two possibilities this week were garbled up with seeds in the blossom pretty bad. I've linked this in the past to extreme temperature swings a few weeks prior that mess with the hormones in the developing tip. That pattern fits again - kind of cooked them a few time during the day while still having some cold nights at that point. Next ones look better, at least from the exterior.

This should be interesting. Certainly no chance of aborts due to excessive heat in the next two weeks. But on the other hand, I'll likely have a couple tough decisions on keepers - go with what will be some of my smallest day 20 measurements ever, or go with the slightly later pollinations with some more horsepower behind the plant. I'll probably have some of each. Everything over 1800# we've grown here had been pollinated June 19-26th.
